FEBRUARY 2025. Fibre optic fire detection with Yokogawa Iberia's DTSX1 control panel.
The Túnel de la Cumbre is located on the LP-3 road on the island of La Palma. It is also known as the Weather Tunnel due to the changing weather conditions on both sides of the mountain. When a car enters the tunnel, it experiences a completely different climate upon exiting, transitioning from rain and fog to sunshine and clear skies.
The tunnel is 2,665 metres long and connects the two main regions of La Palma from east to west, reducing the distance by almost four kilometres. It is the second longest tunnel in the Canary Islands and is used by 5,000 vehicles daily. Due to its high traffic, it is currently undergoing renovations to improve safety and comfort for drivers. With an investment of 1.7 million euros, the work includes, among other improvements, surface water drainage, vault waterproofing, and complete resurfacing of the infrastructure.
For fire detection in this tunnel, DURAN ELECTRONICA, as an authorised distributor of YOKOGAWA IBERIA, has supplied the Yokogawa DTSX1 linear fire detection system using fibre optic technology.
