Air quality and control.

The Piqueras tunnel connects the Spanish provinces of Soria and La Rioja, in the town limits of La Póveda, in Soria, and Lumbreras in La Rioja. The tunnel is located between kilometers 261 and 264 of the N-111 road, under what is known as the Puerto de Piqueras. It has a length of 2,444 meters and avoids 12 kilometers of curves on both sides, thus reducing by 15 minutes the trip between Soria and Logroño. The investment carried out in the construction of the tunnel is of more than 75 million euros.

To comply with the tunnel security standards approved by the European Union, the following supplementary works and interventions have been carried out in this tunnel:
Construction of an escape gallery parallel to the tunnel that allows emergency vehicles to pass through. In the galleries there will be installations for normal and emergency lighting, service ventilation, closed-circuit TV, access doors to the gallery, monitoring of entry doors and a public address system.
The evacuation chambers are equipped with fire-resistant doors, public address system, SOS post, emergency lighting, closed-circuit TV, gallery pressurization system and monitoring of entry and access doors to the connection gallery.

Air control is carried out through the installation of opacimeters and ultrasonic anemometers distributed by Durán Electrónica.
